George asks…
how can i get rid of heartburn?
ive had the heartburn for 3days and its getting to the point that its hurting when i eat… what can i take for it ive tried milk and rennies but its not working

Wendy answers:
You might have acid reflux/GERD.. Usually you are put on a PPI (med) that takes a while to take effect… But you also have to control your diet such as: no spicy foods, no fatty foods, no eating late at night, no laying down right after a meal, elevate your head when you sleep, etc. Go see a Gastroenterologist for your heartburn…

Wendy answers:
Heartburn left over from yesterday? That doesn’t sound right to me. You can have pinched muscles in your back that is causing some of the problems for your stomach though. When pinched they can put pressure on the nerves that go to the stomach and that pressure can be making the stomach put out more acid than it needs and you can have problems caused by that. These muscles could have been like that before but something happened or it was just the wrong combination that help set it all off. Here is how to release those muscles:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.

Linda asks…
frequent heartburn…how can I get rid of this?
I NEVER EVER EVER had heartburn till I got pregnant with our son…then I had terrible heartburn constantly till he was born…it went away for a while but now I‘m getting terrible heartburn again (usually around 3 or so in the morning)…it does not matter what I eat or what time I eat…I always get heartburn around that same time almost every single morning…
I‘ve tried tums and stuff (gets rid of it for a little while and then it comes back worse than before)…Prilosec OTC (helped for a while but doesn’t do much of anything anymore)…
And no, I‘m not pregnant again…but what could cause me to get heartburn like this and how in the world can I get rid of the mess???
figure maybe some of you moms have been through this…hopefully you can help me out…
haven’t heard of pickle juice for heartburn but I have heard of it for gout…might have to try that…milk doesn’t do much good to get rid of it for me…

Susan asks…
Why can’t I get rid of this heartburn?
I have been having heartburn pretty much every day for the last two weeks or so. No matter what I eat or what I drink, it won’t go away. Until today, it was tolerable. Today, it actually got bad enough to make me sick. It’s also been giving me headaches because it keeps me up at night and I‘m not getting as much rest as I‘m used to. Why can‘t I get rid of this? None of the heartburn medicines are working either.

Wendy answers:
Just take Tums and drink milk until you can go see a doctor. It could be acid reflux, and in that case I would recommend Prevacid.
